My Barcelona Summer: 5 Things You Should Never Skip

I’ve been visiting Spain for the last 10 years, and honestly, it never gets old. There’s something about the sunshine, the food, the laid-back vibe… it just pulls me back every single summer. Barcelona in particular has a special place in my heart—and if I can, I always sneak in a little mini break to Sitges too (because why not double the fun?).

If you’re heading to Barcelona this summer, here are five of my absolute favourite things that I have done—tried, tested, and loved.

1. Get lost (on purpose) in the Gothic Quarter
I swear, every time I wander through the Gothic Quarter, I find something new. One minute you’re in a bustling square, the next you’re down a tiny alley with fairy lights and a hidden bar. I usually ditch Google Maps and just explore—stop for a coffee, pop into little shops, and soak up the history. It’s chaotic in the best way.

2. Beach mornings, siesta afternoons
Barcelona has the perfect mix of city and beach, which is probably why I keep coming back. I like to hit the beach early before it gets too busy—grab a towel, maybe a cold drink, and just chill. By mid-afternoon, it’s peak heat, so that’s my cue for a long lunch or a sneaky siesta. No guilt. You’re on Spanish time now.

3. Tapas hopping like a pro
Even after 10 years of coming to Spain, I still get way too excited about tapas. My approach? Order a couple of dishes, share everything, move on, repeat. Patatas bravas, fresh seafood, jamón… it’s basically a food crawl, and I’m here for it. Bonus points if you find a place packed with locals—that’s always a good sign.

4. Gaudí everything (even if you’re “not into architecture”)
I’ll admit, I didn’t think I was that into architecture… until Barcelona proved me wrong. Gaudí’s work is just wild—in a good way. The Sagrada Família still blows my mind every time I see it, and Park Güell feels like stepping into some kind of colourful dream. Even if you’re not a “museum person,” this stuff hits differently.

5. Sneak off to Sitges for a mini escape
Okay, this is my little tradition. After a few busy days in Barcelona, I hop on a short ट्रेन ride to Sitges. It’s only about 30–40 minutes away, but it feels like a whole different world. Think beautiful beaches, a slower pace, and some of the best sunsets I’ve seen. It’s the perfect reset before heading back to the city (or honestly, before deciding you might just stay there instead).

Barcelona in the summer is lively, a little chaotic, and completely addictive. Every trip feels different, even after a decade of coming back. And with a cheeky Sitges getaway thrown in? That’s my kind of perfect summer.

Trust me—you’ll already be planning your next visit before you’ve even left.
