Sip, Stay, Stroll: Why Clapton Craft Is My Kind of London Local

Clapton Craft has quietly become one of my favourite little discoveries in London — and after spending time at their Wood Street spot, I completely understand why people rave about it.

I popped in initially with my pal Gabriella, who introduced the spot to me as part of a bar tour in her hood. The space has that perfect balance London venues are always chasing: stylish without trying too hard, minimalist without feeling cold, and relaxed in a way that makes you want to settle in for “just one drink” that inevitably turns into two or three.

The Wood Street shop is beautifully done — clean lines, simple shelving, soft lighting, and an understated design that lets the real stars take centre stage: the drinks. Their wine selection is genuinely exciting, with shelves full of bottles that make you want to ask questions, try something new, and suddenly become the kind of person who has a “favourite natural orange wine.” The beer offering is just as impressive: rows of carefully chosen craft beers, local brews, interesting imports, and plenty of harder-to-find cans and bottles that you don’t spot in your average bottle shop.

What I love most about Clapton Craft is that it works equally well whether you’re in the mood to stay or just passing through. You can grab a glass of wine or crack open a cold beer and drink in, soaking up the calm, friendly atmosphere, or pick up something special to take away for dinner at home. It feels wonderfully unpretentious — knowledgeable staff, no snobbery, just people who clearly love good drinks.

And major bonus points: it’s dog-friendly, which gives the whole place even more charm. There’s something very wholesome about browsing for wine while a happy spaniel snoozes at someone’s feet nearby.

It’s the kind of place that makes you want to become a regular — part neighbourhood bottle shop, part stylish drinking den, and entirely lovely. Whether you’re a craft beer enthusiast, a natural wine convert, or just someone who appreciates a beautifully designed space with excellent taste, Clapton Craft is one to seek out.
