FLVR Launches People Focus: Shining a light where it matters.

After more than 20 years in hospitality, I’ve seen a lot. The good, the chaotic, the wildly inspiring—and yes, the frustrating too. This industry has given me opportunities I’ll always be grateful for, and I’ve had the genuine privilege of working with leaders who saw me for what I bring to the table: my skills, my experience, my passion. No bias, no barriers—just a fair shot. And when that happens? Magic.

But let’s be real for a second—that isn’t always the case.

There have been moments where everything looked like a green light. You know the ones. The CV lands well, HR is on board, the conversations are flowing, and you’re moving confidently through the process. On paper, it’s a done deal. The system—at least in theory—is working. After all, HR teams are there to champion diversity and inclusion, to make sure the playing field is level.

And then… you hit the final hurdle.

Somewhere between the last interview and the final decision, something shifts. The energy changes. The opportunity disappears. No real feedback, no clear reasoning—just a quiet “no.” And you’re left wondering what wasn’t seen, what wasn’t understood, or what simply didn’t fit someone else’s idea of leadership.

That’s the reality for so many talented individuals in hospitality—especially those from communities that are still underrepresented in leadership roles.

And that’s exactly why People Focus exists.

This new space on the blog is all about celebrating the movers, the shakers, the rule-breakers, and the glass-ceiling smashers in hospitality. The ones who are not only showing up but showing out—redefining what leadership looks like and bringing others along with them. It’s about putting the spotlight where it hasn’t always been, and saying: we see you, we value you, and your story matters.

Because representation isn’t just a buzzword—it’s powerful. When you see someone who looks like you, thinks like you, or comes from a similar background thriving in a leadership role, it does something. It opens doors mentally, emotionally, and professionally. It says, “this is possible.”

And trust me, there is no shortage of incredible talent out there. I’ve worked alongside it, learned from it, been inspired by it. People who lead with empathy, creativity, resilience, and serious skill. People who deserve not just a seat at the table—but a voice that’s heard loud and clear.

So People Focus is my way of giving that voice a platform.

It’s informal, it’s honest, and it’s rooted in real experiences—mine included. It’s not about ticking boxes or making statements for the sake of it. It’s about storytelling, celebration, and maybe even a little bit of disruption (the good kind).

Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned in two decades in this industry, it’s this: talent is everywhere. Opportunity? Not always. And that’s something we can—and should—keep challenging.

So here’s to the leaders who get it right. The ones who hire with intention, lead with integrity, and recognise brilliance in all its forms.

And here’s to the ones we’re about to shine a light on.

Welcome to People Focus. Let’s make some noise.
