Soho’s New Hotspot? Tagine & Grill Is Bringing the Heat

Soho food lovers, prepare your taste buds. A brand-new kitchen residency is landing at The Sun & 13 Cantons this June, and it’s bringing a delicious dose of Moroccan sunshine to central London.

Following a hugely successful five-week pop-up at King & Co in Clapham, Tagine & Grill is making the leap to a permanent home in Soho. The concept comes from hospitality entrepreneur Yassir Chair, the founder behind London’s popular Afuego Burger brand, and marks an exciting new chapter for both the chef and the much-loved pub.

Born and raised in Morocco before moving to London to complete his master’s degree, Yassir has spent years winning over hungry Londoners with his Latin-inspired burgers. Now, he’s turning his attention to the cuisine he knows best, serving up a modern take on Moroccan food packed with smoky flavours, vibrant spices and dishes made for sharing.

The residency takes over the kitchen at The Sun & 13 Cantons following the departure of fan-favourite Mamapen, introducing a completely fresh flavour profile to one of Soho’s most characterful pubs.

At the heart of Tagine & Grill is open-fire cooking. Think charcoal-grilled meats, punchy sauces, colourful pickles and plenty of bold North African flavours. The menu is designed to fit perfectly into the pub setting, whether guests are settling in for a proper dinner, grabbing a few plates with friends over drinks or looking for a late-night Soho feast.

The standout stars are the signature open kebabs, served on flatbread and piled high with toppings. The Chargrilled Lamb Kofta comes loaded with lemon and mint yoghurt, pickled red cabbage, coriander and chilli sauce, while the Chargrilled Chicken Thigh is finished with fragrant Ras el Hanout dressing, harissa mayo and a squeeze of lime. Vegetarians aren’t left out either, thanks to a vibrant Harissa Halloumi Kebab topped with pomegranate and fresh coriander.

For those who love sharing plates, there’s plenty to get excited about. Crispy Chicken Briouats, King Prawn Tangier Bastila Cigars and Chargrilled Merguez Sausages bring plenty of smoky, spice-laden flavour, while traditional dishes such as Zaalouk, a rich roasted aubergine and tomato dip, and Slow-Cooked Vegetable Couscous offer comforting Moroccan classics with a contemporary twist.

The sides deserve their own moment too. Halloumi Fries drizzled with honey and harissa mayo strike the perfect balance between sweet and spicy, while Moroccan-spiced skin-on fries are likely to become a firm favourite among pub regulars.

And because no meal should end without something sweet, diners can finish with Roasted Almond and Honey Briouats, flaky pastries packed with nutty sweetness and plenty of crunch.

One of the most exciting touches is the rotating weekly tagine special, showcasing seasonal ingredients and giving guests a reason to come back again and again.

With its combination of open-fire cooking, vibrant flavours and affordable sharing plates, Tagine & Grill feels tailor-made for Soho’s social dining scene. It’s bold, welcoming and full of personality — exactly the kind of place London’s food lovers will want to discover this summer.

Moroccan cuisine may still be one of the city’s most underrated food traditions, but if Tagine & Grill has anything to do with it, that won’t be the case for much longer.
